So, you’ve just landed at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport — welcome! Now comes the big question: how do I get to the city center without getting lost or overpaying for a ride?
Don’t worry — we’ve got you covered. Whether you’re a planner or a “let’s wing it” kind of traveler, this guide will walk you through the best ways to get around Belgrade, from the airport to downtown and beyond.

Option 1: Taxi (Easiest & Most Comfortable)
If comfort is your priority and you don’t want to deal with local buses right after landing, a taxi is the way to go.
Here’s how to do it without getting scammed:
- As soon as you exit customs, look for the official Taxi Info desk inside the arrivals hall.
- Tell them your destination (e.g., “city center” or our hotel’s address), and they’ll give you a voucher with a fixed price (usually around €20 or 2400 RSD).
- Take the voucher to the official taxi line just outside. Don’t accept rides from random drivers offering deals.
If you’re staying with us, just let us know your arrival time — we’re happy to arrange a taxi or private transfer for you.
Option 2: Bus A1 Mini Shuttle (Budget-Friendly)
If you’re traveling light and want to save some cash, the A1 shuttle bus is a solid option. It’s a direct line between the airport and the city center.
- The bus stops are right outside the terminal, clearly marked.
- Price: 400 RSD (about €3.5), paid directly to the driver (cash only).
- Travel time: ~30-40 minutes depending on traffic.
- Final stop: Slavija Square, which is central and well-connected.
From Slavija, you can walk or take a short taxi ride to most central hotels, including ours.
Option 3: Private Transfer (Stress-Free VIP Vibes)
Want someone to meet you with a sign and carry your bags? Treat yourself to a private transfer.
You can book one in advance through various travel websites or by asking your hotel to arrange it. It’s usually priced similarly to a taxi, but comes with the comfort of knowing someone is waiting just for you — especially handy for late-night arrivals or first-time visitors.

Can I Use Uber in Belgrade?
Short answer: No, but there’s something similar.
Belgrade doesn’t have Uber or Bolt, but it does have CarGo, a local ride-sharing app that works pretty much the same way.
- Download the CarGo app (iOS/Android) before your trip.
- You’ll need Wi-Fi or mobile data to order a ride.
- Prices are generally cheaper than regular taxis.
Note: CarGo doesn’t officially operate from the airport yet, so you’ll need to use a taxi or bus first, and then switch to CarGo while in the city.
Getting Around the City Once You’ve Arrived
Belgrade is very walkable — especially the central areas like Knez Mihailova, Kalemegdan, Dorćol, and Savamala. But when your legs get tired (or the Serbian sun gets too strong), here’s how to move around:
Public Transport in Belgrade Is Free Now!
As of January 1, 2025, public transportation in Belgrade is completely free of charge, making it unique among large European cities. That includes most buses, trams, and trolleybuses across the city.
However:
- Express minibus lines (E-series like E1, E2, E6, E9) are not free and cost about 200 RSD per ride.
- The A1 shuttle bus from the airport to city center also costs 400 RSD, cash only.
Several people on Reddit confirmed this:
What This Means for Travelers
Or the A1 airport shuttle
If you’re hopping on a regular bus, tram, or trolleybus inside Belgrade, your ride is free—no tickets, cards, or apps needed.
Only pay when:
You take an express minibus (E-lines)

Taxis
Always use reputable taxi companies like Pink, Naxis, or Lux. You can call them or grab one at a marked taxi stand. Or better yet — ask reception to call one for you.
Avoid unlicensed taxis, especially those parked around popular tourist areas.
How Far Is the Airport From the City Center?
The airport is about 18 kilometers (roughly 11 miles) from downtown Belgrade. Depending on traffic, it takes:
- 20–30 minutes by taxi or private transfer
- 30–40 minutes by shuttle bus
Easy, right?
Bonus Tip: Stay Connected
The airport has free Wi-Fi, but it’s a good idea to grab a local SIM card or an eSIM for reliable internet access. You can buy one at kiosks or mobile shops in the city (Telenor, A1, or MTS).
Trust us — Google Maps, CarGo, and translation apps come in handy here.
